Singer Alfie Boe learns how his grandfather helped protect the nation as a member of the Home Guard immortalised in Dad's Army and takes to the seas to discover how fishermen from his home town helped feed a hungry nation. Tanni Grey-Thompson discovers that her grandfather William's role as an air warden would have brought him face to face with bombs and fires and, as Radzi Chinyanganya explores how his granny took on a vital role to help keep wartime Britain fed, he hears about some of the unsung heroes of the war, including men from the Caribbean who came to work as lumberjacks to keep the home fires burning.
