As the second instalment of The Railway Killers begins, police are desperately trying to find the two men responsible for the sadistic murders of Maartje Tamboezer and Alison Day, before the killers have a chance to strike again. In a time before DNA revolutionised policing, detectives have one clue: one of the killers leaves traces of his blood group on the victims. The police now face the daunting task of tracking down and interviewing over 3000 potential suspects who match that forensic profile. There’s no guarantee it will lead them to their man, and every day he walks free, there is a chance of another brutal attack. One May evening in 1986, everyone’s worst fears are realised, and another young woman goes missing. 29-year-old Anne Lock was taking a train home from work, to meet the man she had married only four weeks before – but she never arrived. When her body is discovered, the police are in no doubt that she’s the third victim of the railway serial killers.
The Railway Killers was broadcast on Channel 5 at Tuesday 17 August 2021, 21:00.
