Kate helps out her friend and neighbour Rob in his quest to plant a million trees on the hillsides of the Brecon Beacons. Forager supreme Liz gathers some beautiful fresh pine needles for a lemon and polenta cake.
Kate borrows an Ardennes horse named Kip to clear trees she planted nearly ten years ago, in a more traditional and forgiving way. In the kitchen, Kate starts the day with a poached duck egg with fresh green chillies on a toasted crumpet.
It's lambing season on the Monmouthshire farm, and Kate is up at 4am to deal with a dangerously problematic ewe. Later, expert forager Liz takes Kate on a hunt for some surprising wild flavours to be found at this time of year - gorse flowers and blackberry buds.
It's Farmer Tim's birthday and Kate joins him for a walk down memory lane. Together with Tim's wife Sarah and their dog Taff, they walk up the hill just above the farm in the Welsh valley town of Blaina where Tim grew up. Tim reminisces about learning to farm on the surrounding hills and shares a photo of his younger days.
Kate worries about the farm's finances and future as breeding season arrives. Will Ted the borrowed boar do the business with her sows?
